Aid4Mail 5 allows you to filter emails via the basic filter option or via a search query. When you use a search query, any basic search criteria set will be ignored. In other words, you can either use a search query or do a basic search but not both. The search query does allow you to do everything the basic search can do and more.
This article will provide you with information on using the search query and the search assistant.
Under the Filter section, click on "Search query" for item filtering. Now you will see the search query input dialogue box. You can also see "Open Assistant" at the bottom right-hand side.
With a search query, you can use wildcards, boolean operators, proximity searches, tokenization, stemming and more.
Here is an example of some search terms that we want to filter for:
If we were to write this out in the search query, it would look like this:
As you can see, search terms can be single words or phrases. Note that phrases in a search query need to be enclosed in quotes, as demonstrated by the phrase pet store in the example above. fox<10>hen is a proximity search and tells Aid4Mail to only process an email if fox is within 10 words of hen (or hen within 10 words of fox).
If you need to have multiple search terms in an email for it to be processed, you can also use the AND operator. For example, if you need cat and dog and pet store, from the above example, to all be present in an email for it to be processed, it would look like this:
Now you can also use the search assistant to help you with adding search operators. For example if you wanted to filter for emails between January 1st, 2022 and January 31st, 2022 that included the email address email@example.com in the header, you can use the search assistant to assist you. First click on "Open Assistant". Now you can click on select and then hover over date/time to select the "Date" search operator. You can then add the date and click "OK" as shown here:
Now we need to add the end date. Again go to date/time and select "Date". Now you need to change it to "< (before)" and then add the date and click "OK" as shown here:
Next we need to add the email address. So click on "Select" and then hover over "Sender/Recipients". As we want to process any email that contains firstname.lastname@example.org in the email header (From, To, CC, BCC fields), we will select the "Participants" operator and then enter the email address and click "OK". Now our search criteria is complete:
